What is Electrostatic Cleaning?

When it comes to cleaning surfaces and objects, traditional dry and wet dusting tends to be the first methods used. While these cleaning techniques are good, dry dusting alone may kick up resting particles, redistributing them into the air and onto other surfaces. Also, wet dusting can involve harmful cleaning chemicals and make it hard to reach certain spots or objects. For sensitive places, like clean rooms, labs, healthcare facilities and schools, there is a more effective method for stripping dirt, dust, and germs from surfaces that require specialized sanitation: Electrostatic Cleaning.

Electrostatic cleaning is the process of spraying a mist of germicidal cleaner onto surfaces and objects. For awkwardly shaped objects or hard to reach places, cleaning staff only have to point and spray; the mist then coats the surfaces, and envelope the objects. After the spray is applied, the sanitizing agent works to disinfect the covered surfaces. For this reason, electrostatic cleaning is an excellent solution for germ and contaminant ridden areas.

PCJS staff members will perform a deep clean to combat against COVID-19 and other viruses. This deep clean will consist of a combination of hand wiping and/or utilizing a fogger or misting system to apply a germicidal cleaner that is United States EPA registered for use against germs, bacteria, and viruses accessible to targeted surfaces. These surfaces could consist of hard surfaces, furniture, equipment, etc. The germicidal cleaner that is sprayed via a fogger or misting system, allows the appropriate sanitizers, mold preventatives, and disinfectants to wrap around and evenly coat the surfaces for a more complete clean. The fine droplets attach and cover the visible area, underside and backside with the sanitizing agent, making this method extremely efficient!

After hand wiping and applying germicidal cleaner to all areas of the facility, germicidal lamps or mobile UVC Light Handheld Wands are used to sterilize obtainable objects such as: workspaces items, medical equipment, computers, printers, documents, electronics, tools, etc. This method of disinfection uses a short-wavelength ultraviolet light to kill or inactivate microorganisms, leaving them unable to perform vital functions. Using germicidal lamps can help improve everything from air quality to the health and well-being of employees and customers.

Based on CDC Guidelines, PCJS staff members will give particular attention to: workstations, counter tops, tables, light switches, doorknobs/handles, elevator buttons, security card readers, faucets, and escalator/step handrails.

The deep clean is then continued after a dwell period to allow the germicidal cleaner time to kill all disease causing pathogens. Leaving your building clean, sanitized, and most importantly germ free!

Germicidal cleaners are products that kill microorganisms that are a cause of viral and bacterial infections amongst human beings. They are designed to exterminate bacteria and viruses that are harmful to human health. A disinfectant or germicidal cleaner usually guarantees 100% removal of germs and a sanitizer usually kills 99% of germs. A single germicidal cleaner can act as a bactericide, fungicide, and virucide. PCJS only uses EPA approved germicidal cleaners to combat and kill germs, bacteria, and viruses. See the link entitled "CBC Covid-19 Fighting Products List" to see a list of EPA approved disinfectents or germicidal cleaners.

Harmful pathogens can live on surfaces for days, and will potentially double every 20 minutes given the right food source and ambient temperature. This provides ample opportunity to create situations for cross contamination. Conventional cleaning and disinfecting does a fine job of managing microbiological load on common touch points. However, the evolutionary changes of modern pathogens is such that we need to add new strategies to manage cross contamination and microbial load in many types of facilities well beyond acute care. Electrostatic cleaning provides a broad-spectrum approach to disinfecting a complete surface area and an entire room as we have never seen before.
